My biological father passed away before I was born. When my mother remarried, I was adopted by my Irish-American father into his family of three.
Being adopted was a double-edged sword. I was both part of the family as well as an outsider, depending on which way the wind blew. So to get by,
I tried to assimilate.
Later in life I began to revisit
this decision and realized that through no fault of their own,
I will never fit into the mold of
my adopted family. I’m not Irish and I never could be.
In 2016 I filed for and was awarded the trademark for North Border. What started
as a journey of self-discovery transformed into an attempt represent the culture of the North through design.
